A registered architect, Doug earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 1973 from Kent State University. During more than 40 years of practice in Kent, Ohio, he has completed work in the areas of historic preservation and adaptive transformation as well as educational and municipal facilities and office, industrial, site development, and planning projects. He has a passion for historic preservation, demonstrated by his status as a Qualified Architect: Architecture and Historic Architecture by the State of Ohio Historic Preservation Office, his past roles as Chair of the Design Committee for Main Street Kent and Board Member of the Kent Historical Society, and his membership with The Society for the Preservation of Old Mills, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Heritage Ohio. Doug has been instrumental in the redevelopment and preservation of downtown Kent, particularly the Historic Franklin Hotel and Acorn Alley projects.
